Road River Films was founded in 2020 by Afsun Moshiry an Iranian - German producer and curator. The film house supports exceptional narrative and non-narrative documentary and fiction formats by creating an unique cinematic language for a transcendent and stimulating visual experience.

Inspired by a short story of the same title by Gregory Burnham and the novel “Autoportrait'' by Édouard Levé, “Subtotals” is a meditation on the uncertainties of a life that doesn’t hand you any bills. It is an essay wholly composed of 8mm home movies of Iranian people, about an impossible attempt at accounting for one’s life’s products. Have you kept an account of your gray hair? Of the number of houses you have owned or rented? Of the number of kisses you have exchanged? Of the number of times you have flown in dreams? You may not have. It makes no real difference in a life lived beyond numbers.

The story of Road 99 tangles the biographies of many Afghans over the past decades. What is important is to draw a realistic image of young Afghans today who are in solidarity with one another, men and women who are united in their dream of a normal life with freedom of choice.

× A Sense of Place by Iranian Filmmakers
In the episodic documentary "A Sense of Place", Iranian directors* examine a place in Iran, Germany, or France. The places and the stories the filmmakers tell about entering into dialogue with each other. It is about living conditions in today's Iran, social and economic conditions, and identities in exile, places of longing. Films by Mina Keshavarz, Afsaneh Salari, Shirin Barghnavard, Mohammadreza Farzad, Pooya Abbasian, and Azin Feizabadi.
The project was shaped by the collaboration of Wim Wenders and André Rigaut.

This story world reminds us of how we inhabit digital space and travel in the ocean of data. We are no longer defined by realism, but by digital experiences that bring us together and create new boundaries and misunderstandings. Digitality increasingly determines our living space and is closely linked to our existence. We are interested in how this digitality can be cinematographic, and a habitat for storytelling and intimacy. We want to create new visual impressions in cinema that stimulate non-established, forward-looking discourses.

× Afsun Moshiry Producer
Afsun Moshiry is an Iranian German producer and curator. Her first experience with audiovisual work was at the German TV station ZDF/3sat.
For the documentary series Slices, she traveled to 21 countries to work on artist portraits. Her work as a film producer started in 2015 with the film director Carlos M. Quintela and Kate Hartnoll at Seven Sisters films, the success of “La Obra del Siglo” led to the cooperation with Naomi Kawase (Narrative Project) for the film “The Wolves of the East” shot in Japan.
She moved back to Iran in 2017 with the aim to strengthen a cultural bridge between Germany and Iran in the field of Cinema. During her stay in Iran, she has focused on cultural projects in cooperation with Berlinale Shorts, Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, Int. short film Festival Berlin, Arsenal für Film und Videokunst e.V. Forum Expanded. She has done film workshops under the name Film Focus and created a development Fund for emerging Iranian filmmakers.
Since 2020 she is living and working in Berlin where the film house Road River Films was founded.

Anne Winkler, a native Berliner, studied cultural studies with a focus on social sciences and linguistics at the European University Viadrina.
In 2025, she partnered with Afsun Moshiry to establish Road River Films GmbH.
